The Granary Delicatessen is a small but charming
shop in Watlington, three miles from J6 on M40, nestling in the
shadows of the Chilterns.
I never knew there was so much there is a
typical reaction after a visit to the deli.
Robin and Francesca Holmes-Smith, after many years working for large
international companies have combined their experience in the retail
trade, rescuing the ailing food shop, becoming the proud owners of
The Granary Delicatessen in 2002. |

Their years of travelling have given them an
eclectic taste for good food and what to stock. Every corner of this
wonderful shop is filled with a huge range of store cupboard
essentials, favourite ingredients including quality oils, vinegars,
unusual tropical herbs and spices, sweet and savoury biscuits, sweet
and savoury preserves, fudge, toffee and much much more. The tables
are laden with a huge variety of breads, olives and cheeses.
The Granary is a cheese shop at heart stocking over 150 varieties,
many award winners and many coming from UK farmhouse producers, as
well as a fine range of Continental cheese. Produce is sourced
locally where possible - breads and croissants from bakers in
Oxfordshire, delicious cheeses from Berkshire, cakes are home baked
3 miles away, quality British wines originate from Brightwell
Vineyard in Wallingford, bread flours from Wantage. |
|
They also source many fine and award winning foods
from speciality food producers, most of which are not stocked in
supermarkets. The range is continually updated throughout the year
and they try to keep as close as possible to the leading edge of
fine food. The summer is always popular for weddings, and if you
prefer a cheese wedding cake to a sweet one, the Granary is the
place to go for three tiers of perfectly matched superb cheeses.
If its a great latte, delicious ciabata sandwich or a unique
hamper youre after or a cheese course for 6 special guests it
really is the place to go. The great thing about The Granary is that
when you go in you feel spoiled for choice, and when you come out
you just feel spoiled! |
